1 Introduction to Sales and Operations Planning In today’s dynamic environment of frequent business disruptions of a continuously globalizing world being served by complex supply chain networks, an integrated business planning solution is more important than ever. SAP Integrated Business Planning (SAP IBP) can play a pivotal role in bringing supply chain planning processes to the next level. In this first chapter, we’ll explain the importance of the sales and operations planning (S&OP) process in today’s global and volatile business environment. We’ll discover what drives companies to evaluate their integrated business planning from market, process, and technology perspectives. Once the need for a solid S&OP platform has been established, we’ll introduce the SAP IBP solution.
