Introduction to Sourcing and Procurement Companies and governments require both direct and indirect inputs to deliver the goods and services they in turn seek to deliver to the market- place or directly to their customer base(s). At its core, procurement is the process surrounding the purchase of these goods and services by one organization or individual from another organization or individual. This chapter explains the software-agnostic procurement business process for today’s enterprises, the boundaries between procurement with an SAP ERP system and with an SAP cloud solution such as SAP Ariba or SAP Fieldglass, and the key innovations and simplifications introduced with each SAP S/4HANA release.
